ABOUT HELPING THE HOMELESS COLORADO SCHOLARSHIPS

Helping the Homeless Scholarship Awards Program is designed to highlight the incredible potential of Colorado’s young people as well as the challenges which prevent too many of them from succeeding. Helping the Homeless Colorado awards multiple scholarships, in varying amount, to anyone experiencing homelessness who wishes to attain a higher level of education. scholarship programs

The committee will be looking for individuals who have excelled and shown their willingness to put in hard work considering their circumstances. If you are selected you will be notified and you may be asked to come in for an interview. If you are not selected you will be notified as well.

Students should have:
  • 1) A minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0
  • 2) Have succeeded in spite of hardships such as poverty or homelessness
  • 3) Have participated in activities that are helpful to others.
  • 4) Financial need must be demonstrated as well. For more information or to apply, please visit the scholarship provider's website.

Essays

Applicants will be asked to write multiple essays, provide a minimum of 1 letter of recommendation, provide their official high school transcript, and proof of their household income.

Please note: Your endorsers will be contacted personally along with your school. Please make sure all of the information you provide is correct. Applications with incorrect information will be removed from the process. There are no exceptions unless notified by Helping the Homeless Colorado.

We will also ask you to write your personal statement. This personal statement is your opportunity to show our selection committee who you are and what you are about. This is your chance to show why you deserve this scholarship. Your essay should: Have a minimum of 500 words, but no more than 2,500 words. Address the role that education has played in helping you overcome hardships such as poverty, disability, homelessness or personal tragedy. Explain your future educational and career goals. Elaborate about any volunteer work, community service, and extracurricular activities that you are involved in and why they are important. Reflect on your personality and include anything that you would like us to know.

We MUST see some sort of proof of household income. Here is a list of types of paperwork that are the most preferred to prove household income: Pay stub, Bank Statements, a copy of last year's federal tax return, wages and tax statement (W-2 and/ or 1099 including 1099 MISC, 1099G, 1099R, 1099SSA, 1099DIV, 1099SS, 1099INT), Self-employment ledger documentation, Social Security Benefits Letter, Unemployment Benefits Letter. Please attach one of these documents to your application. You may be asked to provide more proof if selected. *

Below please upload at least one letter of recommendation. As an applicant, you must submit at least 1 letter of recommendation from a person who knows you well. This individual must not be a family member. Your endorser should elaborate on what makes you an excellent Scholarship candidate and why he/she believes you will be successful in college. You need to upload your letter into this form. Please make sure that your endorsers leave all of their contact information at the bottom of their endorsement letter. You will not be allowed to submit video or audio files.*
Using the space below, please explain how you are going to produce funds for your education. Considering, this scholarship will NOT cover your entire tuition, rather, a small portion, how will you allocate funds for the rest of your tuition? Please be very specific, this will improve your chances of being selected.*

Helping the Homeless Colorado, a 501(c) 3 non-profit, was founded in 2016 in Denver, Colorado by a group of high school students. We work with individuals who are experiencing homelessness to improve their quality of life.
